No Borders NewsDHS has published an interim final rule (IFR) that would give USCIS authority to require electronic filing for additional immigration forms. The rule is aimed at improving national security screening and making the federal immigration process more efficient.
Under the IFR, USCIS may require that future filings of any immigration form be submitted online if that form has been available for e-filing for at least 180 days. USCIS says it will provide public notice on its website at least 60 days before it requires e-filing for a specific form.
To file, people would need to use an online account with USCIS. Applicants could either complete the form online or upload a PDF of a completed form and supporting evidence.
USCIS also says the change is intended to reduce reliance on paper-based payment processing (the Treasury “lockbox” system), speed up fee payments, and improve fraud detection and identity checks by making data easier to access and analyze.
