USCIS announced that it has completed the initial selection process for FY 2027 H-1B cap registrations. The agency received enough properly submitted electronic registrations for unique beneficiaries to reach the H-1B numerical limits for the fiscal year 2027, including the advanced degree exemption (the master’s cap).

If you were selected, USCIS says your online account will show your registration status, and you were notified that you may file an H-1B cap-subject petition for that selected beneficiary. Only petitioners with registrations for selected beneficiaries may file H-1B cap-subject petitions for FY 2027.

USCIS also says FY 2027 H-1B cap-subject petitions may be filed starting April 1, 2026. The filing period will be at least 90 days, and petitions must be filed at the correct location (or online at my.uscis.gov) during the filing window shown on the selection notice.

Petitioners must include a copy of the applicable selection notice with the FY 2027 H-1B cap-subject petition. USCIS also notes that beginning April 1, it will only accept the Form I-129 edition dated 02/27/26, and all H-1B cap-subject petitions for FY 2027 must use that edition.

Finally, USCIS reminds petitioners that certain H-1B petitions filed at or after 12:01 a.m. Eastern on Sept. 21, 2025 may need to include an additional $100,000 payment due to a Presidential Proclamation restriction on entry of certain nonimmigrant workers. USCIS says registration and selection only relate to eligibility to file, and petitioners still must meet all requirements for approval.

What This Means for You

  • Selected registrants can proceed to file an H-1B cap-subject petition for FY 2027 starting April 1, 2026.
  • Only petitioners tied to selected beneficiaries may file; unselected registrations cannot be used for cap-subject filing.
  • Use Form I-129 edition 02/27/26 for FY 2027 cap-subject petitions accepted on/after April 1.
  • Include your selection notice copy and ensure the petition’s details match the selected registration.
  • Some H-1B filings may need an extra $100,000 payment based on the Presidential Proclamation timing.
