One significant change includes the Department's ability to terminate a program under specific circumstances. This gives more flexibility to the Department in managing the program. Additionally, the proposed rule eliminates outdated requirements and introduces new procedures that utilize the current capabilities of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
The definitions used in the program will also be updated. New terms such as "Unauthorized Employment" and "Valid Program Status" will be defined to provide clearer guidelines for participants and sponsors. Furthermore, the separate extension provision for au pairs will be rescinded, streamlining the process for all exchange visitors.
These changes are part of an effort to modernize the program and ensure it meets current needs and standards. Stakeholders are encouraged to review these proposed changes and provide feedback during the comment period.
