No Borders NewsThe Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is calling on elected officials to stop supporting what it describes as “reformist” changes to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a statement dated February 2, 2026, ILRC says the only adequate response is the full dismantling of ICE.
ILRC argues that DHS is being used to carry out a mass-deportation agenda and that retraining ICE officers would not address what it calls systemic problems. The group also claims that ICE has operated using internal guidance it describes as secret and illegal, including a memo it says would disregard Fourth Amendment protections.
The statement criticizes enforcement actions that ILRC says target people in sensitive places and involve warrantless arrests. ILRC also points to the detention of children under 18 and their families, and it objects to contracts with for-profit companies that run detention facilities.
ILRC says Congress should not vote for DHS funding that, in its view, supports these practices. Instead, it urges lawmakers to include funding for immigrant legal services, support for sanctuary policies, and redirect DHS resources toward services such as housing and healthcare.
The group also urges members of Congress to listen to constituents who, according to ILRC, are demanding that ICE leave their cities rather than negotiating over enforcement policy.
