No Borders NewsThe Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) is issuing an interim final rule to modernize how cases are handled before the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer (OCAHO). The rule updates OCAHO regulations to support electronic filing and electronic records applications.
Under the change, EOIR will implement electronic filing for all OCAHO cases. The rule also includes updates that may require certain users to submit documents electronically, rather than using older paper-based methods.
The interim final rule also changes how “service of process” works in OCAHO matters. That means the way parties are formally notified or served with documents may be different going forward.
In addition to the electronic filing and service changes, the rule makes several minor updates to OCAHO’s rules of practice and procedure to clarify and improve existing regulatory language.
