CA delays Medi-Cal dental cuts tied to immigration status until July 1, 2027

California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) announced that Medi-Cal dental benefit changes tied to immigration status will be delayed. DHCS says the regular dental services cut will not start until July 1, 2027.

Under the plan, some adult Medi-Cal members age 19 and older would lose coverage for regular dental services based on immigration status, except for emergency dental services. DHCS also ties the affected group to adults who do not qualify for federally funded full-scope Medi-Cal.

This update matters because it changes the timeline for when regular adult dental coverage could end for certain people. DHCS is effectively giving more time before the dental coverage limitation begins.
